Carpenter ants have one node and come in many varieties with different sizes and colors - tan, black, and red. HABITS: Carpenter ants hollow out dead, moist wood in trees, firewood, and fence posts to build nests but they don't eat wood. Inside, they build colonies in wall voids, foam insulation, eaves, crawl spaces behind siding, in attic insulation and many other places, usually in areas where leakage has caused moisture to accumulate. They forage at night during summer, however they often invade structures in spring and fall looking for food sources.
What the consumer needs to know about certifications or wood destroying pest and organism reports issued for real estate transactions. I would absolutely Not recommend Gold Country Termite to anyone! They were one of three pest control companies that came out for an inspection while I was in escrow to buy my home. The large, old, and tall wrap-around deck was the biggest repair liability with this new house, due to dry rot. One pest inspection company said 50k to replace it, another said 15k, and we had time for one more inspection.
I told the inspector at Gold Country that I needed a very conservative, realistic number on the higher side and that I would negotiate for buyer credit. He nodded and said that actually, no way did I need to replace the deck, but that they could repair it for a very afforable price, as well as fix some other pest and dry rot issues around the house.
His report came back at just under 6k! I couldn't believe it-- and was concerned--but was glad they could fix it for that amount. Unsurprisingly, the buyer did not give me much credit at all due to this low number (That would end up climbing to 26k! Keep reading.) Many start-date postponements later, because Gold Country Termite was losing all their employees, they got finally got going on my deck.
One man and a teenage assistant - that's it! At the end of the first week, he stops and says he needs to send the inspector over because he just found more dry rot. Two days later I am issued another project/invoice of 10k! It would be 10k more, so now I'm at 16k. I feel have no choice now because my deck is slowly coming undone, so I give another deposit.
But a few days later, they stop work again and send the inspector out to my home Again. I get an email saying it will be Another 10k. Totally ridiculous! I had to pull out, furious that I had been so misled, and that the company was neglegent in their inspection (as several deck contractors would show me later clues that more wood was bad than Gold Country initially noted).
Gold Country Termite priced themselves incredibly low and put upon further inspection in small print of the report, : allowing them to keep raising the project price, once my deck had giant holes in it. I ended up losing a little five and a half thousand to this company even though I'd rather not have paid them a penny for causing me to not use my deck for two summer months, and to have cost me the a sizeable buyer credit when negotiating in escrow. Big-time lesson for this first-time homeowner!

RIP off all the way. The only people to fear in selling your home is the termite inspection industry. You could be 2 weeks from closing and they write a report that supersedes everything and their word is god. Green moss on your deck is the end of the world. They are contractors and they are known for $10k repair bills. Wanted $1000 to replace one sheet of siding. There is no "as is" when it comes to the outside of the house.

First time posting a negative review. But felt I needed to let people know. Wish I would have checked them out here first, lots of concern in these reviews. Anyways, Richard was the inspector and all went well until he was leaving. After he treated the known areas, I pointed out an area my wife noticed that had termite tunnels. He quickly clean them up and sprayed the small area.
The entire "extra" effort took all of 15 minutes, if that. No mention of cost to do it until I received a bill for $250 which I refused to pay siting the fact that he did not mention an extra cost to do this area that HE missed. On top of that unprofessional behavior, 9 months later, the termites are back and although the work is warrantied for a year, they refuse to honor the warranty.
So 1) their work did not eliminate the termites and 2) they do not believe they need to inform their clients of extra charges before the extra work is done. Geez, even my car mechanic does that!

I am giving 1 star because I had to provide the rating to be able to submit my review. First of all, they said that they guarantee your report withing 1 day. It took 4 days. In their report they said that there was approximately 148 lineal feet of deck that needed to be replaced. However, when I asked them which boards, they would not tell me. They would not mark them.
I spoke with the owner and she told me that if I hired someone else to do the work, they should know which boards need to be replaced. She was very condescending and rude. They wanted me to sign a contract for approximately $5700.00 in repairs. However, they did not want to show me what needed to be repaired. For some reason, that just doesn't appear forthright. It may benefit you to review their license history at the Structural Pest Control Board (pestboard.ca.gov).

My experience with Gold Country Termite was very frustrating. They would not give me a timeline that was firm and kept cancelling dates for reasons that included a vacation of which we were unaware. The job took so long that it put us with exposed wood in the beginning of the rain and snow season. The job is still not complete. I would never use this company again.
