The developers of EcoWise Certified are independent. EcoWise Certified is a project of the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), which also sponsors the Bay Area Green Business Program. EcoWise Certified was founded in partnership with the Bio-Integral Resource Center, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and the Sacramento Stormwater Quality Partnership.
Together, these organizations worked with a broad array of stakeholders from local government, the pest management industry, business owners and non-profit organizations to develop the program.

EcoWise Certified is an independent, third-party certification program that distinguishes knowledgeable, leading-edge licensed pest management professionals who practice prevention-based pest control. EcoWise Certified practitioners employ a variety of common sense techniques to control pests effectively, minimizing the need to use pesticides.
The EcoWise IPM Process has been created to help you understand the series of continuous and interrelated steps that guides an IPM practitioner when dealing with a pest problem. IPM service providers can use it to explain their IPM service to customers as well as use the language from this document in their service contracts.
EcoWise Certified IPM Service Providers must demonstrate through a rigorous program of testing, service record reviews, and field audits that they are offering Integrated Pest Management (IPM) services that meet EcoWise Certified standards. EcoWise Certified standards are designed to reduce pesticide exposures to people, pets, and environment.
